Are you Setting Realistic Goals for 2024? Read on to learn how to do so.

In December, right before New Year’s Eve, Americans set goals for the coming year. In my opinion, usually the goals are unrealistic and by the end of January they’re forgotten about and abandoned. Most people take on more than they can realistically handle.

What if you actually chose just 1-2 realistic goals for the new year? You might accomplish those goals and feel really good about what you did create.

So grab some paper & a pen and let’s begin.

  1. What are your priorities for the new year? Based on your values, you must prioritize where you want to focus your efforts.
  2. Take the areas of priority and create 1-2 SMART goals. A SMART goal is one that is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely. Without these factors a goal is something that’s just out there with no parameters to hold you accountable (timely) and no clear measure of success. For example, instead of saying my goal is to eat healthier in 2024. A SMART goal would be I’m going to drink 6-8 glasses of water daily and eat 2 green vegetables daily (measurable) by June 30, 2024 (timely).
  3. Take time to discuss the goal with your spouse, co-worker, boss or a friend to determine if the goal is realistic and achievable. Do some research online to gather more information. Refine the goal if need be and write out the goal on a piece of paper.
  4. Enlist your support group (friends, family, etc.) to hold you accountable to achieve the goal. If you need more support & accountability consider working with a Life Coach.
  5. Post the goal in several places where you will see it at least two times a day. I like posting it on the refrigerator, bathroom mirror, the car dashboard or on your computer screen. Read the goal out loud daily.
  6. Write down 1-2 action steps that you will take to achieve your goal.
  7. When you achieve the goal that you set celebrate the accomplishment.
